The ambience in the dining room was welcoming. I had a great experience with the Full Monty Breakfast available all day. The staff was responsive when I needed assistance, making my stay comfortable, especially as a history teacher who appreciates good service.
The noise from other rooms was quite noticeable during the evening. It would have been nice to open the window for fresh air, but I managed.

The room offered a fantastic view of the fields and was beautifully clean, featuring quirky furnishings and a huge comfortable bed. Fresh milk in the fridge for morning coffee was a nice touch, and the luxury towels and bathrobe were appreciated. Unfortunately, there were some refurbishment snagging issues that impacted our experience, but the team's excellent customer service really stood out as they offered a complimentary meal. Dining options seemed lively, with tempting aromas wafting from the restaurant.

Stunning views of the Derbyshire countryside make for a picturesque backdrop. The seasonal menu offerings delivered a pleasant surprise with fresh and local ingredients, particularly in the evening meals, which were generally enjoyable aside from a couple of misses.
Reading and signing an indemnity waiver right on arrival struck me as a bit unnecessary, creating an uncomfortable start. The mattress in the King Room left much to be desired, feeling lumpy and a bit worn, which wreaked havoc on my sleep. Breakfast became a bit of a circus on both mornings, with chaos reigning during busy hours. Soggy brown toast served when I specifically ordered white and a delivery of granola without the granola are signs of poor execution. There's also a lack of privacy with bathroom windows that aren’t frosted. Then there’s the bathroom door, which kept getting stuck off its runner. Paying extra for an additional cup of tea when spending £175 for the room felt a smidge inappropriate. a mixed bag of experiences.

The ambiance is delightful, and the food was quite tasty. the service could improve, as we felt forgotten at times. The bathroom could use a makeup mirror and perhaps a small gin treat would enhance the experience. a charming place worth visiting despite minor drawbacks.
